Why "The Salt & Light Journal" — The Heart Behind the Name

Mornings here in Maine are often a mix of rhythm and grace. The sounds of little feet down the hall, breakfast cooking on the stove, sunlight spilling in and maybe a plan to visit one of our local beaches later in the day.

It's in those ordinary, unhurried moments that I often sense God's gentle reminders, that even the smallest of routines can reflect His light.

That's the heart behind The Salt & Light Journal.

The Meaning Behind the Name

In Matthew 5:13-16 (ESV), Jesus says:

13 "You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything expect to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet. 14 You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."

Those verses have been an anchor for me recently. A reminder that we are called to bring God's love, truth and beauty into the ordinary. We are to be the salt of the earth, the light of the world — to brighten our homes, our communities, and our small corners of the world.

The Meaning Behind Risen Rose

When I decided to reopen the online Risen Rose website, I had prayerfully made the decision to realign my work with Him. To make sure everything I do points back to His glory.

As 1 Corinthians 10:31 (ESV) says:

"So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God."

That verse reminded me that even the creative work of running a small business, photographing products, packing orders, writing words, can all become acts of worship when done with the right heart.

The name Risen Rose carries that same meaning:

  • Risen represents my faith — keeping Christ as my foundation and solid rock, like Matthew 7:24-27 teaches us.
  • Rose is a family name — a reflection of my roots and a reminder of what matters most. It also symbolizes my heart for home and community.

My hope has always been that when someone visits Risen Rose online or in a partnered store, they feel welcomed, like they've found a place that's peaceful, encouraging and full of light.

Why I Started This Space

Between motherhood, homeschooling and running my boutique, I’ve felt a pull to share more of the stories behind it all. The faith that sustains me, the lessons I’m learning and the beauty tucked inside quiet days.

The Salt & Light Journal was born from that desire — to create a space that weaves faith, motherhood, homemaking and honest glimpse of life here in Maine.

An Invitation

If you’ve been longing for encouragement, a slower pace and a reminder that your everyday moments matter, I hope this space feels like home.

Here, we’ll walk together through the seasons of life — learning how to live with purpose, love deeply and shine brightly for His glory.

Welcome to The Salt & Light Journal.

With grace,
Olivia
